Last Sunday, during sacrament meeting, a member said something really interesting. He said that the answer to any and every gospel question beginning with "Why?" is "to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." He then gave some examples:
Q: Why should we read the scriptures every day?
A: To bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
Q: Why must we attend church every Sunday even if we have other things like homework, ball games, etc?
A: To bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
Q: Why are only men required to have the priesthood?
A: To bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
Then he said that after we have answered those great questions of the soul, if we can ask ourselves how those things "bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man," we will increase tremendously in our understanding of gospel principles. It was something that really stood out to me. In the past, I know I have been guilty of complaining about things we "have" to do, but knowing that the reason behind everything we're asked to do really can change our perspective on everything.
I've tried it out, and it works! It's pretty cool!
Hope all is well back in Utah! Happy Easter y'all!
